After the Storm

Well the news today is the aftermath of all the storms here in the Chicagoland area. We had quite an afternoon at the winery yesterday! Actually we lost power at 3 pm and because of the sirens going off took all the customers down to the cellar. It was wine tasting by flashlight!!! I really wished I would have had a camera because the guests were having a ball!

Last night Andres, Donna, Chef Chris and I braved the storm and headed over for the winemaker dinner at Shaw’s Crab House in Schaumburg. We had been working with Shaw’s Sommelier, Steve Tindle, for quite sometime to create the perfect food and wine pairing and perfect it was! We started out with oshi sushi and oysters for the reception paired with our Chenin Blanc. The first course at dinner was a Lobster Tail with Illinois Sweet Corn and Roasted Garlic with the Viognier. Second course were the most fabulous scallops ever (really) with a tomato marmalade paired with Sangiovese. The main course was a cut-it-with-your-fork filet with a white bean ragout paired with our 1997 Cabernet ($100 a bottle). Dessert was a showstopper! Fresh peaches with cake and ginger ice cream with the Ice Wine. Wow! I’m telling you, you REALLY need to go to the next winemaker dinner!

So, just for fun, I had to include a little note about confusion at the winery. Whether you know it or not, we have three, count them three, Lisa’s! We have so much trouble keeping them separate we’ve just started calling them ‘Fred’s Angel’s’.

Everyone, have a grape weekend, and don't forget to visit the Roselle Main Street Market on Saturday! I'll be there shopping, too!
